Why Pilates?

Professional Sport

Pilates is increasingly integrated into professional sports programmes as both a full-body conditioning method and a tool for active recovery. Within a demanding training or competition schedule, it helps reduce muscular tension, improve mobility, and promote neuromuscular reset—without adding excessive load. This makes it an effective complement to load management strategies, supporting tissue quality, joint health, and overall recovery.
The method promotes functional, whole-body integration that translates into both daily movement and sport-specific performance. Emphasis on movement quality and variability can help reduce overuse patterns, improve coordination under fatigue, and meet the high neuromuscular demands of elite sport.

The Reformer offers a wide repertoire of exercises performed against resistance on an unstable base, challenging balance, strength, flexibility, and motor control. We focus on scapulo-thoracic stability for shoulder function, lumbo-pelvic control for spinal support, and retraining the deep neck flexors to stabilise the cervical spine. Sessions also enhance thoracic mobility, flexibility of key trunk and lower limb muscle groups, postural awareness, and proprioception.

“ Reformer Pilates has been a great addition to our training schedule as a group. The players have loved working with Liz and found real benefit in their movement patterns and full body control. The demands of cricket & especially fast bowling are incredibly unique and at times we find it hard to mimic those demands in a gym or pitch environment. The work we have done with Liz has really helped to replicate the challenging loading patterns that cricket provides. One of the features the group loves about the farm studios is the adaptability of the reformer work, Liz has been able to adjust session based off of our training blocks to provide the right stimulus for the players.”

Injury Rehabilitation

Pilates is an effective tool for post-injury recovery and reducing the risk of re-injury. We focus on strengthening the pelvic stabilisers to improve hip and knee control—key for those rehabilitating lower limb injuries or surgeries. For shoulder rehabilitation, we assess the shoulder complex for compensatory patterns, using targeted cueing and retraining to restore efficient movement before introducing load, supporting optimal joint function and reducing strain.

Sessions incorporate mobility and flexibility training to improve range of motion (ROM) and support tissue recovery. We also use breath-led movement to enhance neuromuscular control, reduce unnecessary tension, and facilitate more efficient movement patterns.

Each programme is individually tailored, with progression guided by your symptoms, capacity, and stage of recovery. Our instructors are experienced in working with physio’s, chiropractors, and osteopaths to ensure your Pilates plan supports your wider rehab goals. Whether you’re recovering from injury or aiming to build long-term resilience, our clinical approach is designed to restore function and support sustained, efficient movement.

Women’s Health

Pilates can be a supportive and effective approach for women experiencing mild pelvic floor concerns or lower back discomfort. It focuses on building strength and control through the deep muscles that support the pelvis and spine—muscles that play a vital role in how we move, breathe, and manage pressure through the body. When these systems aren’t working in harmony, issues like pelvic floor dysfunction, back pain, or reduced core control can occur.

Recent research has shown that Pilates can help improve pelvic floor function and overall quality of life, particularly when used alongside specialist guidance. It can also support posture, stability, and ease of movement in daily life.

We take a safe and considered approach. Where appropriate, we work closely with women’s health physiotherapists and will always recommend a referral before beginning targeted Pilates work, to ensure the most effective and appropriate care for your needs.
